Theory and Training

Sites for looking things up and going deeper: air law, meteorology, navigation and technology – where someone has taken the trouble to write it down thoroughly.

On this site: Weather Basics · Airspace and Radio · Technology

  • Fliegerbreu – theory for reference

Gerhard Breu's private collection, put together to deepen theoretical knowledge: general VFR and IFR procedures, air law, meteorology, navigation and technology. Plus prepared Excel sheets for flight preparation and calculations and the publication "Fliegen in den Alpen", which is also available bound on request. Plain design, but unusually thorough – and the author himself points out that the flight manual always applies for flight preparation. (German)

  • FAA – Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge

The FAA standard work: aerodynamics, aircraft performance, weather, navigation and human factors – free as a PDF, in English.

  • DWD – weather glossary

Meteorological terms from A to Z, explained by the German Weather Service. (German)

  • Air Traffic Regulations (LuftVO)

The legal text of the LuftVO – the German supplements to the European rules of the air. (German)

  • SERA – Standardised European Rules of the Air

Implementing Regulation (EU) No 923/2012: visual flight rules, minimum visibility, distances from cloud – in the official wording.
